Connect Google Drive to AtomicSam
Centralize your work by attaching documents, images, and other files from your Google Drive directly to jobs, clients, and quotes in AtomicSam.
This guide shows you how to connect your Google Drive account to AtomicSam. Doing this allows you to attach files directly to jobs and clients, keeping all your important information in one place.
Before you start
- You need to be an Admin in your organization to enable the integration.
- You must have an active Google account with files in Google Drive.
Enable the Google Drive integration
First, an administrator must enable the Google Drive integration for your whole organization. Once enabled, any staff member can connect their own Google account.
- Navigate to Settings → Integrations.
- Locate the Google Drive integration in the list of available apps.
- Click Connect. You will be redirected to a Google sign-in page.
- Choose the Google account you wish to use for the primary connection.
- Review the permissions AtomicSam is requesting. We need these permissions to access the file picker and create links to your files.
- Click Allow to grant permission and authorize the connection.
- You will return to AtomicSam, and the Google Drive integration will now show as active.
Attach a file from Google Drive
After the integration is enabled, you can attach files from your personal or shared Google Drive to any record in AtomicSam that supports file attachments, like a job, client, or quote.
- Go to the specific page where you want to add a file, such as a Job or a Client detail page.
- Scroll to the Files section.
- Click Add File. A dropdown menu appears.
- Select Add from Google Drive.
- If it is your first time, you may be prompted to sign in to your Google Account and grant permission. Follow the on-screen steps.
- The Google Drive file picker opens inside a modal window.
- Navigate to your file or use the search bar to find it.
- Select the file you want to attach and click Select.
- The file is now linked in the Files section of the record, with a Google Drive icon to show where it is stored.
ℹ️ Good to know: AtomicSam links to your Google Drive file instead of copying it. This means the file does not use your AtomicSam storage quota, but it also means the original file must remain in Google Drive for the link to work.
Manage file access
The visibility of a linked file depends on its sharing settings in Google Drive. Linking a file in AtomicSam does not automatically share it with other staff members.
If you attach a private file from your Google Drive, other staff members will see the link in AtomicSam but will get an access error from Google if they try to open it. To allow others to see the file, you must adjust the sharing settings for that file inside Google Drive.
⚠️ Heads up: Always check the sharing settings in Google Drive to ensure the right people have access. For collaborative jobs, consider using Google Shared Drives or setting file permissions to
Anyone with the link can view.
Disconnect your Google Drive account
You can disconnect your personal Google Drive account at any time. This action only affects your ability to add new files. It does not remove files that are already linked.
- Navigate to My Profile → Integrations.
- Find the Google Drive connection and click Disconnect.
- Confirm your choice in the pop-up window.
An Admin can also disable the entire integration for the organization by going to Settings → Integrations and clicking Disconnect on the Google Drive card.
Good to know
- Each staff member connects their own Google Account. An Admin enables the integration for the organization, but individuals must authorize their own accounts to attach files.
- If you move or delete a file in Google Drive, the corresponding link in AtomicSam will break. The file attachment will still be listed, but it will not open.
- The integration allows you to attach individual files. It does not support attaching or browsing entire folders.
- Disconnecting and reconnecting your account will not affect existing file links.
